The Mont Blanc range is one of the most impressive in the Alps, and many of its peaks rise above 4,000 metres. At these elevations, the landscape is dominated by glacial and periglacial environments whose existence is threatened by global warming. It is estimated that, by the end of the century, these environments may survive in only a few Alpine locations. Mont Blanc is one of them.
