PrévRisk CC and the Municipality of Courmayeur

As part of the PREVRISK CC project, the Municipality of Courmayeur, with the support of professional technical experts, carried out studies assessing the most frequently used routes in the Mont Blanc Massif, with evolving maps, and took part in the cross-border steering committee on the evolution of high-mountain routes, with particular reference to the Brenva Marais and Monzino areas.

The Municipality also carried out maintenance and partial construction works on the Mont Blanc Glaciological Trail, a themed route that runs from Entrèves, at the Val Veny square, to the Brenva Glacier, passing through the Pavillon du Mont Fréty, at 2,193 metres, the first station of Skyway Monte Bianco.

Courmayeur, which has an exceptional glaciological heritage, drew inspiration from the work carried out in Chamonix and in other Alpine regions to create a themed route dedicated to enhancing the glaciers on the Italian side of Mont Blanc, from both a scientific and a historical perspective.

The project includes the restoration and safety improvement of the trail, as well as the installation of 14 themed stations with QR codes along a 4 km route, from Entrèves, at 1,300 metres, to the Pavillon, at 2,193 metres, and on to the Brenva Belvedere.

Two trails are involved: the trail linking the Skyway Monte Bianco station to the Pavillon via Praz de La Brenva, chosen for its proximity to the Brenva moraines and its privileged view over the geomorphology of Val Veny; and trail 20A, which leads from the Pavillon to the Brenva Belvedere, crossing the Little Ice Age moraines of the Toula Glacier and recently deglaciated areas, until it reaches a privileged viewpoint over the still-active part of the Brenva Glacier.

The Municipality of Courmayeur will support the design and improvement works on the two trails, together with the communication and graphic development of the BRENVA GLACIER TREK project, in close synergy with Skyway Monte Bianco.

The Mont Blanc Glaciological Trail initiative is part of a broader collaboration with the Chamonix Valley, where a network of five low-altitude themed routes for younger visitors has been developed over the years. These educational, playful, itinerant and pedagogical trails cross the four municipalities of the Chamonix Valley. Courmayeur will become part of this network, contributing to a unified, cross-border promotion of the routes.
