The PrévRisk CC Project

Risk prevention and adaptation to climate change in the mountains, through research and knowledge-building activities designed to provide municipalities with operational tools, flagship risk-awareness and communication actions for mountaineers and young people, as well as training activities.

This is the focus of the ALCOTRA project “PrévRisk-CC - Risk prevention and climate change adaptation in the territories of the Espace Mont-Blanc”. The project responds to specific priorities of the Municipality of Courmayeur, which is involved in numerous operational activities and works closely with the Communauté de Communes de la Vallée de Chamonix-Mont-Blanc. The various actions include improvements to several access routes to mountain huts and bivouacs and the creation of a glaciological trail: the Brenva Glacier Trek. The glaciological trail enhances an existing hiking itinerary dedicated to the memory of Francesco and Giuditta Gatti.

On the Aosta Valley side, the PrévRisk CC project is led by Fondazione Montagna Sicura as lead partner, in partnership with the Autonomous Region of Aosta Valley, ARPA Valle d'Aosta and the Municipality of Courmayeur. On the French side, the main partner is La Chamoniarde.

The project was approved under the Italy-France ALCOTRA 21-27 cross-border cooperation programme: it responds to the priorities set out in the Espace Mont-Blanc Feuille de route on climate change adaptation.
